Product Development &
Commercialization
MSI
has been called upon by its
customers to provide support in development of new products and commercialization efforts,
including:
-
Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH)
Operational Analyses - SWATH ships and a variant called Sea Slice are
advanced hull forms that are inherently stable in high sea states and
relatively fast compared to traditional monohull seagoing vessels. MSI
has completed several operational analyses involving the feasibility of
employing SWATH/Sea Slice technology for various applications including:
- Replacing aging monohull vessels currently used to conduct
oceanographic research in ice or high sea states typically encountered
in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico
- Augmenting Japanese defensive naval forces to enable rapid response to
maritime threats.
- Replacing monohull vessels currently used in logistics support
operations for the offshore oil and gas industry in Brazil and the Gulf
of Mexico.
- Fast ferry operations in Rio de Janeiro which typically experiences
relatively adverse weather conditions.
- Replacing monohull vessels currently used to transport pilots for
further transfer to merchant ships in the North Sea and Scheldt River,
Netherlands.
- Operational analyses were conducted to assess current operations and
determine the feasibility of using SWATH/Sea Slice technology to improve
efficiency of operations and reduce costs. Customer:
Lockheed Martin Ship Systems
- Product Development Support - Provided systems
engineering, modeling and design support for development of innovative stair-climbing
wheelchair product. Supported enhancement of proof-of-concept prototype by integration of
computer control systems and dynamic stability controls. Customer: TechnoSolutions/Access
Vehicles
- Marine Simulator Support
- Provided technical support
services for integration, installation and operational support of marine simulator systems
in North America. Supported sites included U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Massachusetts
Maritime Academy, New York Maritime Academy and Maine Maritime Academy. Customer:
AmeriSys/Norcontrol
Simulation
- Simulator Subsystem Acquisition & Development Support
- Designed, specified and acquired components and subsystems for development, integration
and installation of international marine simulator products. Customer:
Norcontrol

- Paper Handling Systems Product Development
Support - Provided design, development, and integration support
for a revolutionary new off-line paper handling and connection system. The system provides
total system control and utilizes a database to track the status of all printed material
from the time it is printed until it is processed by a finishing device. The system
provides interim off-line storage of all printed material before it is routed to a
finishing station while providing total accountability and document status and tracking at
any point in the process. This off-line system more effectively matches the throughput of
high-speed printers and paper finishing devices while providing the total document
tracking and accountability benefits normally associated with continuous on-line
processing systems that connect printer outputs directly to finishing devices. Customer:
Gunther Technologies, Inc.
